When I was first diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I assumed all the food I was destined to eat was going to be bland, dry, and dense. I soon discovered that there are many alternatives to what I use to eat that are almost as good if not better then the original (like Kraft Gluten Free Mac and Cheese that my daughter prefers over the normal version).
When I picked up Blakes Gluten Free Shepards Pie, I was excited for a hearty savory meal with a rich sauce that just helped reinforce why being gluten free was not a bad thing. What I got was unseasoned hamburger at the bottom with a layer of corn (Honestly the best part as it was nice and sweet) capped off with a layer of the blandest mash potatoes I have ever tasted (Really no salt, pepper, or seasonings?).
While this meal contains 650 MG of sodium it needed a lot more than that! The meat was grainy, dense, dry, and lacking any real flavor. Even hot sauce could not save this meal. I ended up throwing it out after a few bites due to just how bad the meat was. There was absolutely no type of sauce that we would see in a traditional Shepards pie and 4.99 each for an 8 oz serving it felt more like a money grab hiding behind a gluten free label. As Celiacs and gluten free warriors we deserve better and companies need to strive to do better. I do not mind paying more for a quality product but I feel like anyone could have done a better version of a Shepards Pie at the same or fraction of the cost.

Would I purchase this again? Definitely not, with so many better fresh and frozen food choices in the same price range, I would rather skip Shepards Pie all together then purchase this product again.
